Letter to Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care

We joined Sex Matters, MurrayBlackburnMackenzie and Fair Play for Women in sending the following letter to Neil Gray, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, calling on him to uphold the right of NHS Scotland staff to separate sex toilets and changing rooms at work.

The letter was highlighted in The Courier article SNP block NHS Fife tribunal being discussed in Holyrood over ‘danger’ it could jeopardise case, and in The Telegraph SNP health secretary refuses to back nurse facing sack for ‘misgendering’ trans doctor.

Political reactions to the case

Following weeks of press articles detailing Sandie Peggie’s employment tribunal, the First Minister was asked for his thoughts yesterday. Mr Swinney declined to comment on the case but thought the law was “crystal clear” despite thinking it was up to “employers to make a judgement about what the arrangement should be in any particular facility”.

Scottish Labour leaders Anas Sarwar and Jackie Baillie announced their support of Ms Peggie and admitted that if they had known what they do now, they would not have supported the Gender Recognition Reform Bill.

Attempts by numerous Scottish Conservatives and Alba MSPs to ask questions in Holyrood were rejected by the Presiding Officer today. A request by Tess White for a Ministerial statement was voted down by the SNP, LibDems and Scottish Greens.
