Central Scotland and Lothians West

Central Scotland is solidly SNP in the constituencies, although Labour had a resurgence in the General Election, it’s not been sustained. The list will be where the main shake ups happen here.

Airdrie

  • Euan Blockley – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Neil Gray – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • John Jo Leckie – British Unionist Party
  • Suzanne MacLeod – Labour Party
  • Brendan O’Donnell – Independent
  • Graham Simpson – Reform UK
  • Edward John Thornley – Liberal Democrats

Airdrie has been held by the Health Sec Neil Gray since 2011 and that is unlikely to change. YouGov have Labour in second place, but with both SNP & Labour losing voters to Reform. More in Common have Reform pushing the SNP hard in second place. Reform’s Graham Simpson was a member of the last Parliament.

Almond Valley

  • Angela Constance- Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Damian Doran-Timson – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Malcom Kevin Jones – Reform UK
  • Caron Marianne Lindsay – Liberal Democrats
  • Jordan Stokoe- Labour Party

Almond Valley has moved from the Edinburgh and Lothian region. It’s been held by Justice Secretary, Angela Constance, since 2011 and, again, it is a safe SNP seat.  While we don’t expect Ms Constance to break ranks anytime soon, we were cheered by her robust speech when laying the SSI to add sex to Hate Crime, especially her response to Maggie Chapman’s complaints about “trans exclusionary language”.

She has also held back on signing the Out for Indy LGBTQIA+ pledge. See The Times article: SNP candidates vow to fight for ‘bodily autonomy’ of trans people

Bathgate

  • Gus Ferguson – British Unionist Party
  • Stephen John Harte – Liberal Democrats
  • Peter Heggie – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • David McLennan – Reform UK
  • Pauline Stafford – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Jenny Young – Labour Party

Previously in the Linlithgow constituency – former MSP Fiona Hyslop is not seeking re-election. The SNP should hold comfortably according to YouGov, although More in Common has them neck and neck with Reform.

Coatbridge and Chryston

  • Andy Bruce – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Kieron Higgins – Labour Party
  • Mandy Lindsay – Reform UK
  • Fulton James MacGregor – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Daniel Richard Hugh Mancini – Liberal Democrats

Fulton MacGregor, one of the members of the Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee which “scrutinised” the doomed Gender Recognition Reform Bill, should hold his seat easily.

Cumbernauld and Kilsyth

  • Keith Allan – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Steven Grant- Reform UK
  • Jamie Hepburn – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • William Brian Howieson – Liberal Democrats
  • Alan McManus – Alliance to Liberate Scotland and Sovereignty
  • James McPhilemy – Labour Party

Safe SNP seat held by Jamie Hepburn. YouGov places them ahead of Lab while More in Common see a strong showing by Reform.

Falkirk East and Linlithgow

  • Amanda Bland – Reform UK
  • Martyn Day – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Ian Wallace El-Paget – Independent
  • Paul McGarry – Liberal Democrats
  • Siobhan Paterson – Labour Party
  • Lewis Stein – Conservative and Unionist Party

Safe SNP seat held by Martyn Day. YouGov places them ahead of Lab while More in Common see a strong showing by Reform.

Falkirk West

  • Neil Benny – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Gary Bouse – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Richard Fairley – Reform UK
  • Paul Godzik – Labour Party
  • Stuart James McArthur – Independent
  • Lucy Anne Elizabeth Smith – Liberal Democrats

It will be interesting to see if the Michael Matheson affair dents enthusiasm for the SNP in his old seat. YouGov still has the SNP with a comfortable majority over Lab, but, again, More in Common have Reform snapping at their heels.

Motherwell and Wishaw

  • Clare Adamson – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Dominic James Alderson – Independent
  • Bob Burgess – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Ayeshah Khan – Labour Party
  • Jenni Lang – Liberal Democrats
  • Duncan MacMillan – Reform UK
  • Greig Duncan McArthur – Alliance to Liberate Scotland

Clare Adamson has a solid majority in Jack McConnell’s old seat and looks set to win comfortably.

Uddingston and Bellshill

  • Steven Bonnar – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Meghan Gallacher – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Mark Griffin – Labour Party
  • George William Hobbins – Reform UK
  • Ben Munnoch – Liberal Democrats

Again, it’s hard to see any candidate beating Bonnar. Bonnar is one of the few SNP politicians to have expressed doubts about Gender Recognition Reform. Voters also have the option of Meghan Gallacher who was a great support in the last session.

List votes top up the constituency votes. Candidates from political parties are ordered, so if you vote for a party on the list, it’s useful to know who the top candidates are.

SNP: 0 seats

  1. Pauline Stafford
  2. Neil Gray
  3. Toni Giugliano

Labour: 2-3 seats. Mark Griffin has served as MSP for the region, Jenny Young worked for Michael Marra, so we hope that is a good sign!

  1. Mark Griffin
  2. Jenny Young
  3. Kieron Higgins

Conservatives: at best the forecast is for one vote in the region. It would be a shame if Meghan Gallacher is not returned to Holyrood.

  1. Meghan Gallacher
  2. Lewis Stein
  3. Neil Benny

Reform: 2-3 seats. Reform looks likely to do well on the list. They are coming through strongly in polling for some constituencies.

  1. Graham Simpson
  2. Mandy Lindsay
  3. Amanda Bland

Liberal Democrats: 1 seat at best. We don’t know much about McGarry other than he is a homelessness and housing campaigner.

  1.  Paul McGarry
  2. Lucy Anne Elizabeth Smith
  3. Caron Marianne Lindsay

Greens: 1 seat which will see the return of co-leader MacKay

  1. Gillian Audrey MacKay
  2. Claire Louise Williams
  3. Cameron Glasgow
