West Scotland

West Scotland will be one of the battlegrounds for Labour and the SNP. The other big story will be if the Conservative list vote collapses as some pundits indicate.

Clydebank and Milngavie

  • Claire Gallagher – Scottish Common Party
  • Ben Langmead – Liberal Democrats
  • Alix Mathieson – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Marie A McNair – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Callum McNally – Labour Party
  • Andy White – Reform UK

A surge from Reform may ensure that McNair is safe.

Cunninghame North

  • Ian Gibson – Alliance for Democracy and Freedom
  • Kenneth Gibson – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Mike Mann – Reform UK
  • Matthew McGowan – Labour Party
  • Christine Margaret Murdoch – Liberal Democrats
  • Ronnie Stalker – Conservative and Unionist Party

Kenny Gibson has been one of the most independently minded MSPs. He rebelled on Gender Recognition Reform and on the “Unbuyable” Prostitution Bill. He should hold comfortably and we would be very happy to see him back.

Cunninghame South

  • Katy Clark – Labour Party
  • Maurice Corry – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Emma Farthing – Liberal Democrats
  • Patricia Gibson – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Matthew McLean – Reform UK

Kenny’s wife, former MP Patricia, was also opposed to Gender Recognition Reform. Her local rivals will be Katy Clark, who has done good work in the last session, especially in her attempt to reform Freedom of Information, and Reform

Dumbarton

  • Jackie Baillie – Labour Party
  • Elaine Ford – Liberal Democrats
  • Lynda Hannah McEwan – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
  • Andrew Joseph Muir – Independent
  • Gary Mulvaney – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • David Smith – Reform UK
  • Sophie Traynor – Scottish National Party (SNP)

The SNP would dearly love to unseat Baillie who has held the seat since 1999. They came very close in 2016 when Labour held on with a majority of 109. Both YouGov and More in Common think she should win, but while YouGov has her on a big lead, More in Common sees this as a tight three-way fight with Reform also in the mix.

Eastwood

  • Jackson Carlaw – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Euan Robert Davidson – Liberal Democrats
  • John Mooney – Reform UK
  • Kirsten Frances Oswald – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Kayleigh Quinn – Labour Party

Eastwood could have a big impact on the election and the list votes. Jackson Carlaw will be looking to retain his seat against a challenge from former local MP Oswald. The big question if he does, is how will that affect the allocation of list seats for the region.

As an aside, we aren’t sure why the Lib Dems put a transactivist Edinburgh councillor up here!

Inverclyde

  • Francesca Brennan – Labour Party
  • Jamie Gillan Greene – Liberal Democrats
  • Stuart McMillan – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Malcolm Offord – Reform UK
  • Ted Runciman – Conservative and Unionist Party

Local boy made good, Malcolm Offord, is hoping to put up a good show for the party he leads. Polls suggest that this will be a comfortable hold for the SNP.

Paisley

  • George Adam – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Neil Bibby – Labour and Co-operative Party
  • Sinead Daly – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
  • Satbir Gill – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • James Kenyon – Liberal Democrats
  • Alec Leishman – Reform UK
  • Mark Turnbull – Freedom Alliance
  • William Wallace – Independent

Adam has held the seat comfortably since 2011.

Renfrewshire North and Cardonald

  • Michelle Simone Campbell – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Jim Halfpenny – Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
  • Jack Hall – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Mike McKirdy – Labour Party
  • Moira Ramage – Reform UK
  • Grant Robert Toghill – Liberal Democrats

A new seat largely made up of Renfrewshire North & West and Glasgow Pollok. The former was Natalie Don-Innes’ seat and the latter that of former First Minister, Humza Yousaf. Neither are standing again. SNP should win.

Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley

  • Tom Arthur -Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Farooq Choudhry – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Jamie McGuire – Reform UK
  • Paul O’Kane – Labour and Co-operative Party
  • Ross Stalker – Liberal Democrats
  • Ken Thomson – Alliance for Democracy and Freedom

The old Renfrewshire South seat looks safe for Tom Arthur.

Strathkelvin and Bearsden

  • Pam Gosal – Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Faten Hameed – Reform UK
  • Adam Harley – Liberal Democrats
  • Denis Johnston – Scottish National Party (SNP)
  • Colette McDiarmid – Labour Party

This unpredictable seat is now a target seat for the Lib Dems who finished 4th here 5 years ago. We know very little about Harley other than he is an actor. Pam Gosal was one of the biggest voices on women’s rights in the last Parliament and we’d love her to cause an upset! There’s another new face for the SNP after Rona McKay stepped down.

List votes top up the constituency votes. Candidates from political parties are ordered, so if you vote for a party on the list, it’s useful to know who the top candidates are.

Conservatives: 1 seat. The Conservatives need to poll well on the list to ensure the return of leader Russell Findlay, especially if Carlaw retains his seat. We fear that we will also lose Pam who was a voice for women in the last session.

  1. Russell Findlay
  2. Jackson Carlaw
  3. Pam Gosal

Labour: Assuming that Baillie can hold Dumbarton, 2 seats will see the return of Neil Bibby & Katy Clark. Paul O’Kane is 4th on the list, so is not likely to make it.

  1. Jackie Baillie
  2. Neil Bibby
  3. Katy Clark

Liberal Democrats: Lib Dems would be lucky to get one seat in the region which means that Jamie Greene time in Holyrood is over.

  1. Adam Harley
  2. Jamie Gillan Greene
  3. Christine Margaret Murdoch

SNP: 0 seats

  1. Stuart McMillan
  2. Kirsten Frances Oswald
  3. Michelle Simone Campbell

Reform: 2-4 seats

  1. Malcolm Offord
  2. David Smith
  3. Moira Ramage
  4. Mike Mann

Greens: 1-2 sears

  1. Ross Greer
  2. Cara McKee
  3. Karen Sharkey
