UK Supreme Court – one year later
To mark the first anniversary of our landmark Supreme Court judgment, FWS returned to London, arriving in time for a debate in Westminster Hall on the ruling, and a question from Lord Rooker in the House of Lords: “To ask His Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the merits of implementing the proposed Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance on single sex spaces by means of primary legislation.”

FWS with Carla Lockhart MP, Tracy Gilbert MP, Iqbal Mohamed MP, Dr Caroline Johnson MP, Rosie Duffield MP, Claire Coutinho MP, Jim Allister MP and Andrea Williams, Jo Marshall, Maria Kelly Bethany Hutchison and Jennifer Melle.
And then we had a celebration cake with the Conservatives.

On Wednesday we met with Bridget Phillipson, Minister for Women and Equalities, following her statement that the updated Code of Practice by the EHRC would be laid before Parliament in May. Ms Phillipson maintained the Code could not be done any earlier as purdah for Scottish and Welsh elections had already started. We don’t know what is in the updated Code but it seems some further example scenarios have been added and Ms Phillipson now thinks it is robust, legally sound, enforceable, and importantly, one she feels she can stand behind if it is subject to any legal challenge.

There was time for some press and photos on College Green before heading off to the All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting in Portcullis House, hosted by Rosie Duffield MP.

Thursday 16th was the anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling and we delivered a letter to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street and then joined Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square to look towards Parliament to take action.
